Accounting: Licensure

Information regarding the Accounting Licensure

Calculations being done for accounting.

Master of Accountancy (M.Acy.)

The Master of Accountancy (M.Acy.) degree program is designed for individuals preparing for a career in the public accounting profession. This program prepares graduates not only for professional licensure and certification but also for future leadership roles. Courses in the program meet the research and ethics requirements to become a licensed CPA in Texas.

Master of Science in Accounting and Information Technology (MSAIT)

The Master of Science in Accounting and Information Technology (MSAIT) provides knowledge and hands-on experience in information security and control, regulatory reporting, business intelligence and enterprise information management. This program can be used to meet the education requirements for the CPA license in Texas.

The initial CPA license is applied for directly with each state. Most states do offer CPA reciprocity if an individual has passed the CPA exam, meets specific experience requirements, and holds a valid CPA license. A graduate seeking licensure in a state outside Texas will need to check with the specific state board regarding seeking a reciprocal license and any additional state requirements. Further information on licensure for each state is provided below.

Texas State University makes every effort to ensure state licensure or certification information is current; however, state requirements may change. While a program may originally meet the educational requirements for licensure, changes in requirements could impact the program's ability to meet any new educational requirements.

Prospective and current students should keep in mind that licensing and authorization requirements vary by state and that relocating during the course of a program to another state could impact whether that student can continue in the program. If students are considering relocating, they should contact their program director to check for authorization and licensure eligibility requirements.
