Information regarding the CLAS Program
Professional Counseling, M.A.
All three emphasis areas of the M.A. in Professional Counseling (Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Counseling, and School Counseling) are nationally accredited through the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Each concentration meets the academic requirements for licensure and certification in Texas. Depending on concentration, program graduates are eligible to apply to become a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate, or Certified School Counselor in Texas. School Psychology, S.S.P.
The Specialist in School Psychology (S.S.P) prepares students to become skilled clinicians and problem solvers, serving children, schools, and families. Coursework in the areas of school-based psychoeducational assessment, counseling, and consultation build competencies for professional practice as a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology. The S.S.P. program has been approved by the National Association of School Psychologists. A program graduate is eligible to apply for licensure from the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists and certification as a Nationally Certified School Psychologist from the National School Psychology Certification Board. Individuals who meet requirements for this national credential generally meet or exceed the graduate preparation requirements for initial credentialing in all states. Educational Leadership, M.Ed. with Principal Certification, and Post-Master’s Principal Certification
The Master of Education in Educational Leadership with Principal Certification, as well as the Post-Master’s Principal Certification, emphasize a 21st-century approach to the preparation of aspiring school administrators. These programs are members of the University Council for Educational Administration, which is a national consortium of research universities that are preparing leaders of excellence for the nation’s schools. Students in both programs are eligible to register for and take the Principal as Instructional Leader (268) and Performance Assessment for School Leaders (PASL) exams, which are required for principal certification in Texas. The M.Ed. with Principal Certification and the Post-Master’s Principal Certification meet the requirements to apply for principal certification in Texas but not in any other state.

Superintendent Certification Program
The TXST Superintendent Certification Program prepares educators to serve as school district superintendents or in other central office leadership positions. This program prepares students for the TExES Superintendent exam, which is required for full certification as a superintendent in Texas.
