Respiratory Care: Licensure

Information regarding the Respiratory Care Program

Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care (B.S.R.C.)

Lungs with stethoscope

The Respiratory Care, B.S.R.C. degree prepares students for careers as respiratory therapists providing patient care in hospitals, pediatric clinics, extended care facilities, sleep labs, and more. This degree is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC). CoARC accredits respiratory therapy education programs in the United States.

Graduates of this program are prepared to take the Therapist Multiple Choice (TMC) national board exam through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Once a graduate takes and passes the TMC national board exam, the graduate contacts their state licensing agency and submits documentation qualifying them to obtain the state license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP). In Texas, the Texas Medical Board (TMB) oversees the license to practice, the Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP). All other states have RCP as their entry-to practice credential as well. Application requirements for licensure vary by state. Visit NBRC’s List of State Licensure Agencies for additional information on national licensure requirements by state.
