About the Course

The course is designed to explore the intricate relationship between languages, personalities, and identities. Drawing on foundational theories and contemporary research, this course delves into how languages shape the way we perceive ourselves and the world around us. It is ideal for students, educators, linguists, and professionals interested in understanding how an individual constructs new personalities and identities in a language learning process. 

Throughout the course, participants will engage with key concepts such as linguistic personality, cultural frameworks in language learning, and the dynamic nature of personalities and identities across different linguistic contexts. The course offers a multidisciplinary approach, integrating insights from linguistics, psychology, anthropology, and cultural studies. 

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will be able to define the concept of linguistic personality and its implications on language learning. Participants will be able to explain how language influences the perception of time, space, and motion. Participants will be able to describe how the use of imagined identities can be used in language learning. Participants will be able to analyze and use the Language Alter Ego and its components in language learning.

Format:

  • Synchronous + Asynchronous Learning: 10 hours of study time in total, including tests and case studies.
  • Interactive Virtual Meetings: 4 virtual meetings of 1.5 hours, featuring discussions and breakout sessions focused on sharing examples and personal experiences related to language and identity, alongside work on case studies.
  • Pre-recorded Video Content: 2 hours of high-quality video content
  • PDFs and Presentations: Documents and slide decks to support the learning process.
  • Tests and Self-assessments: Multiple-choice questions and self-assessments to gauge understanding.

Certificate

  • Participants will receive a double certificate from TXST CE and Amolingua upon completion. Credits or microlearning badges may be available depending on university policies.
