Overview
The Master of Social Work (Advanced Practice Leadership) degree program is an exciting opportunity for individuals who are interested in pursuing a career based around improving society. Our online M.S.W. degree program is built on a liberal arts perspective. Our graduates perform extremely well on state licensing exams and have found employment across a wide variety of service delivery fields.
The School of Social work also offers interesting electives in specific topics, such as health care, diversity, international social work, gerontology, spirituality, adventure therapy, work with veterans, and others.
Two fully online tracks are available:
- The Advanced Standing track (36 credit hours) is for graduates of a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)-accredited B.S.W. program with a BSW obtained within the last 10 years.
- The Foundation track (62 credit hours) is for students who do not hold a Bachelor of Social Work (B.S.W.) degree from an accredited program but instead have a bachelor degree in another field of study.

Accreditation
Texas State University's Master of Social Work program is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, and our graduates are eligible for state licensure.

Program Mission
The School of Social Work at Texas State University prepares culturally responsive, advocacy-focused, ethical social workers who are prepared to serve as leaders for positive change. It advances the purpose of social work, which is to promote personal and organizational well-being and to build a more just society. The Advanced Practice Leadership curriculum allows students to integrate direct [practice] and administrative course work in order to train ethical, effective social workers. The program celebrates their distinguished alumni, who are recognized social work leaders at the state, national and global levels.
